PHILOSOPHY

自然

Nature

Nature brings rich inspiration to Chen Zhiquan, AKACHEN. In the last three decades, nature, as well as the flowers, birds, insects, and plants in the garden, have always been the main themes of his creations. He integrates the spirit of calligraphy, floral art, and tea ceremony into his work.

The philosophy of “learning from nature, but surpassing nature” is the core of traditional Eastern bird-and-flower painting and garden design. Based on traditional aesthetic concepts, AKACHEN uses exceptional titanium craftsmanship combined with natural elements, transcending the mere imitation of nature. His works are imbued with profound cultural meaning, showcasing a distinctive titanium art and jewelry style.

美學

Aesthetic

For Chen Zhiquan, the way light refracts through materials touches human emotions. By exploring how refractive indices in titanium and jewelry craftsmanship can reveal subtlety and elegance, Chen Zhiquan has built the unique “aesthetics of light” for AKACHEN.

意境

Ambiance

After years of involvement in gardening, tea ceremony, and Zen practice, Chen Zhiquan has developed a refined observation of blooming flowers, withered leaves, dew, and even the growing environment of plants. His appreciation for the aesthetics of classical gardens has transformed into a series of titanium art and jewelry creations for AKACHEN, expressing his philosophical insights on life and Zen practice.

Through carefully sculpted titanium textures that represent life, paired with gemstones to reflect the aesthetics of light, and blending the forms of painting, sculpture, and jewelry, Chen Zhiquan demonstrates a continuous transcendence of boundaries.

Each piece of AKACHEN artwork undergoes repeated refinement and patient waiting, allowing time to nurture a unique life, with an original spirit that tells an ancient and timeless story.

ART DIRECTOR

AKA CHEN

As a jewellery artist, AKACHEN incorporates heavily the elements from oriental aesthetics and philosophy into his works. Growing up in a Buddhist environment, AKACHEN’s practice in calligraphy, meditation, tea ceremony and Ikebana instil in him a state of mind that allows him to have complete focus in crafting the most unusual beauty of jewellery. His professional training also equipped him with an inquisitive mind and keen observation like one of a natural scientist’s.

AKACHEN established his jewellery studio in 1989 in Taipei, Taiwan. With a team of craftsmen and technicians, AKACHEN designs and handmakes each work that celebrates the gem's natural form, utilising a variety of top-quality gemstones- diamonds, emeralds, rubies, sapphires. AKACHEN's works are distinctly recognisable. In the last decade, AKACHEN’s works have been propelled onto the international stage, as they are exhibited globally, adored and collected by royal families in Europe, worn by Hollywood celebrities on the red carpet, and bid at international auctions.
